People in my family and at work tend to turn to me as the resident political analyst whenever they have a question aboot something in the news or the 2012 erections. Apparently it’s assumed that by being both the host of the awesomely awesome “The Right Hook” and your 2011 New York State Young Republican of the Year, I have any idea what the hell I’m talking aboot. I know, right?
This brings me to my mom. She called me this morning to ask, “What’s this with the Republicans doing something to Medicare and Social Security?” She had heard on the news that they wanted to move to age to sixty-seven, do away with it, end it as we know it, place leftist talking point here. Her main concern was the age, because she’s sixty-two now.
I explained to her that no, the Republicans don’t want to destroy entitlements. We want to reform it so that it’s still around for me, and that if you are fifty-five or older, they aren’t touching it at all.
Here’s the rub: I know that because I spend every waking moment of the day on teh internets, and follow these things as a hobby/obsession. Her news input is two hours of “Good Morning America” before she goes aboot her day. (You might even consider her a “low information” voter, except that liberals only use that if the person has the audacity of a dissenting opinion).
She’s not on teh Twitter, and only goes on teh YouTube to find things for school. Her only involvement in politics is me. What is the GOP doing to make sure my mom and people like her get the facts that the Obama surrogates at NBC/ABC/CBS News ignore?
What are they doing, you know, besides nothing?
